About Us
The Indian Realist Learning Network (IRLN) is a Community of Practice where researchers and implementers collaborate on advancing realist methodologies and their use in the south asian context.
The IRLN is a group that helps build the capacity of Indian researchers to use Realist methods in their analysis of health policy and health systems. It is a collaborative space to discuss methodologies of realist evaluation and synthesis and troubleshoot when required.
With the creation of this network, we aim to create a collective of Indian realists who can collaborate on projects to build a body of realist work from the country and contribute to the advancement of realist methodologies. The group will also hold regular webinars from eminent speakers, serve as a space where early career researchers can ask questions to researchers with more experience in using realist methods and will also invite members to collaborate on writing papers together.
What is Realist Evaluation?
The Realist Evaluation approach seeks to explain how and why complex interventions work (or don’t work) in particular contexts. This methodology is well suited to tackle evaluations of complex interventions and focuses on generative mechanisms in evaluating health policies and systems interventions. By focusing on the underlying mechanisms realist evaluation provides deep insights into the effectiveness of public health interventions, informing better policy decisions and practice.
