Join us for an intensive 3-day workshop in Bengaluru on ‘Realist Evaluation’ organized by the Institute of Public Health Bengaluru (IPH).

About Realist Evaluation:

Realist Evaluation approach seeks to explain how and why complex interventions work (or don’t work) in particular contexts. This methodology is well suited to tackle evaluations of complex interventions and focuses on generative mechanisms in evaluating health policies and systems interventions. By focusing on the underlying mechanisms realist evaluation provides deep insights into the effectiveness of public health interventions, informing better policy decisions and practice.

Target Audience: (Restricted to participants from India only)

This workshop is designed for public health professionals, researchers, postgraduates, and PhD students with an interest in health policy and systems research and evaluation. Participants should have a basic understanding of public health concepts and research methodologies. Those currently exploring realist methods or applying them in their research are encouraged to participate to get hands-on experience of application of this methodology.

What is Realist evaluation?

Realist evaluation is an essential evaluation method to study programs and policies in health. The starting point of a realist evaluation is the fact that programs and policies work for some and not for others and hence the technique allows to explain how and why programs and policies work, especially in complex health system settings.

Topics covered in this Workshop :

Through this hands-on workshop, the concepts of theory-driven inquiry and particularly realist evaluation will be explained. CTRITH – Online webinar on the occasion of International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples

On 9th August 2022, Institute of Public Health Bengaluru under the initiative Centre for Training, Research, and Innovation in Tribal Health(CTRITH) and Jilla Budakattu Girijana Abhvriddhi Sangha, Chamarajanagar District had jointly organized an online webinar on the occasion of the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples focusing on the theme of the year “The role of indigenous women in the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge: Local context”.

Three women representatives/community leaders from 3 different local Adivasi communities participated as speakers and Dr. Prashanth N S moderated the session. Smt. Gouramma from Iruliga Community, Ramanagar District, Smt. Puttamma from Solega Community Chamarajanagar District and Ms.Susheela from Koraga community, Udupi District participated and shared the rich culture and practices among their society and shed light on the role of indigenous women in the preservation and transmission of traditional knowledge. The event was well attended by individuals and people working on tribal health, researchers, PhD students from various institutions.

ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಆಫ್ ಪಬ್ಲಿಕ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಹಾಗೂ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಬುಡಕಟ್ಟು ಗಿರಿಜನ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಂಘ, ಚಾಮರಾಜನಗರ ಜಂಟಿಯಾಗಿ ವಿಶ್ವ ಆದಿವಾಸಿ ದಿನದ ಅಂಗವಾಗಿ ಆಗಸ್ಟ್ 9ರಂದು ಸೆಂಟರ್ ಫಾರ್ ಟ್ರೈನಿಂಗ್ ರಿಸರ್ಚ್ ಅಂಡ್ ಇನ್ನೋವೇಶನ್ ಇನ್ ಟ್ರೈಬಲ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್(CTRITH) ಯೋಜನೆಯಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಆನ್ಲೈನ್ ವೆಬಿನಾರ್ ಒಂದನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. “ಆದಿವಾಸಿ ಜನರ ಪಾರಂಪರಿಕ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಪ್ರಸರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಪಾತ್ರ” ಎಂಬ ವಿಶೇಷ ವಿಷಯದ ಕುರಿತು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಆಯೋಜಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಆದಿವಾಸಿ ಸಮುದಾಯಗಳ ಮೂವರು ಮಹಿಳಾ ಪ್ರತಿನಿಧಿಗಳು/ಸಮುದಾಯ ಮುಖಂಡರು ಭಾಷಣಕಾರರಾಗಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು ಮತ್ತು ಡಾ. ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ್ ಎನ್.ಎಸ್., ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟರು. ರಾಮನಗರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಇರುಳಿಗ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ. ಗೌರಮ್ಮ, ಚಾಮರಾಜನಗರ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಸೋಲಿಗ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ. ಪುಟ್ಟಮ್ಮ ಹಾಗೂ ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕೊರಗ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಕು. ಸುಶೀಲಾ ರವರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಸಮುದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿನ ಶ್ರೀಮಂತ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶಿಷ್ಟ ಆಚರಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡರಲ್ಲದೇ, ಸಾಂಪ್ರದಾಯಿಕ ಜ್ಞಾನದ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಪ್ರಸರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ತಮ್ಮ ಪಾತ್ರಗಳೇನು ಎಂಬುದರ ಮೇಲೆ ಬೆಳಕು ಚೆಲ್ಲಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಆದಿವಾಸಿಗಳ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡುವ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಗಳು, ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಮುಖಂಡರು, ತಜ್ಞರು, ಸಂಶೋಧಕರು, ವಿವಿಧ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಗಳ ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು, ಮತ್ತಿತರರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು.

IPH, Bengaluru staff participate in the 5th National Conference on Tobacco or Health

Thirteen members of the Chronic Conditions and Public Policies cluster at IPH actively participated in the three day conference of the 5th National Conference on Tobacco or Health (NCTOH). This three-day scientific programme focused on diverse public health issues and challenges in tobacco control at the national and sub-national level along with context-specific solutions for their replication towards achieving tobacco free environments. There were plenary sessions, panel discussions, symposia, oral presentation, poster discussion, and workshops on many aspects of tobacco control which will pave the way towards building effective policy and program.

Dr Upendra Bhojani, Riddhi Dsouza, Anand Kumar, Kanika Chaudhary, Ketki Shah, Dr Pragati Hebbar, Vivek Dsouza, Dr Chandrashekar Kottagi, Kranthi Vysyaraju, Aishwarya Ashok, Praveen Rao, Achyutha Nagara Gadde and Kumaran P from the Institute of Public Health (IPH), Bengaluru actively participated in this 3-day national conference held between September 25 and 27, 2021.
Dr Upendra Bhojani, Director, IPH Bengaluru on Day 1 (September 25, 2021) was in a panel discussion and presented on “How should we approach commercial determinant of health?”, he was part of the plenary session on September 26, 2021 on “Emerging Issues in Tobacco Control: Contextualising Global Interventions” and he presented on “Tobacco Industry Interference”.

Dr Pragati Hebbar made two oral presentations- “Implementation’ of tobacco control policies in LMICs – a realist synthesis to explain the process and its facilitators and barriers” and the second, “LifeFirst: Impact of a school-based tobacco- and supari-cessation intervention among adolescents in Mumbai, India.”

This national conference was a boost to tobacco control efforts by the amalgamation of tobacco control professionals, health programme managers, public health experts, civil society advocates, academicians and researchers of various clinical and non-clinical disciplines from different states across the country under one roof who shared their contextual experiences and best practices in tobacco control which was aimed to ultimately lead to advancing tobacco control in the country.

ಮಾರ್ಚ್ 8 2021, ಬಿಳಿರಂಗನ ಬೆಟ್ಟ : ಸೋಲಿಗ ಆದಿವಾಸಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಹಿಳಾ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆ. ಗ್ರಾಮಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಬಿಳಿರಂಗನ ಬೆಟ್ಟ, ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಬುಡಕಟ್ಟು ಸೋಲಿಗ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಂಘ (ರಿ), ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಪಬ್ಲಿಕ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಮತ್ತು ವಿವೇಕಾನಂದ ಗಿರಿಜನ ಕಲ್ಯಾಣ ಕೇಂದ್ರ ಇದರ ಸಹಯೋಗದೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸೋಲಿಗ ಆದಿವಾಸಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರ ಅಂತರರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಹಿಳಾ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯನ್ನು ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ರಂಗಮ್ಮ ನಾಗರಾಜ್ ಉದ್ಘಾಟಿಸಿದರು. ಸಂಪನ್ಮೂಲ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್. ತಾನ್ಯ, ಅಂತರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಹಿಳಾ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು, ಡಾ. ಸಿ ಮಾದೇಗೌಡರು ಮಹಿಳೆಯ ದಿನಾಚರಣೆಯ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಅನಾದಿಕಾಲದಿಂದಲೂ ಆದಿವಾಸಿಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪುರುಷರು ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಸಮಾನರು, ಆದರೆ ಇತ್ತೀಚಿನ ಕಾಲಘಟ್ಟಕ್ಕೆ ತಕ್ಕಂತೆ ಸಮುದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇವೆ, ಆದರೆ ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಉಳಿಸುವುದು ನಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವೆಂದು ತಿಳಿಸಿದರು. ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮಕ್ಕೆ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಅತಿಥಿಗಳಾಗಿ ಆಗಮಿಸಿದ ಇನ್ಸ್ಟಿಟ್ಯೂಟ್ ಪಬ್ಲಿಕ್ ಹೆಲ್ತ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಇದರ ಸಹಾಯಕ ನಿರ್ದೇಶಕರಾದ ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಪ್ರಶಾಂತ , ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಆದಿವಾಸಿ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಅಂತಾರಾಷ್ಟ್ರೀಯ ಮಹಿಳಾ ದಿನದ ಪರವಾಗಿ ಶುಭ ಹಾರೈಸಿದರು, ಹಾಗೂ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಸದಸ್ಯರು ಶುಭಹಾರೈಸಿದರು, ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಬುಡಕಟ್ಟು ಸೋಲಿಗ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಸಂಘದ ಅಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಸಿ ಮಾದೇವ್, ಜಿಲ್ಲಾ ಪಂಚಾಯತ್ ಮಾಜಿ ಉಪಾಧ್ಯಕ್ಷರಾದ ಕೆತಮ್ಮ, ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಯೋಗೀಶ್, ಡಾಕ್ಟರ್ ಮಾನಸ, ಮಹಂತೇಶ್ ಇತರರು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು, ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಮಹಾದೇವಮ್ಮ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ನಿರೂಪಿಸಿ ವಂದಿಸಿದರು.

ಪೋಡುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಧ್ಯಪಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಧೂಮಪಾನ ಹೆಚ್ಚಾಗಿ ಕಂಡುಬರುತ್ತಿರುವುದರಿಂದ ಮುಂದಿನ ದಿನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇದರ ವಿರುದ್ಧ ಜಾಗ್ರತಿ ಮತ್ತು ಹೋರಾಟ ಮಾಡಬೇಕೆಂದು ಸಮುದಾಯದ ಮಹಿಳೆಯರು ಚರ್ಚೆ ಮಾಡಿದರು.
